Illyana Fights Rape Culture and the Patriarchy in Just the First 6 Pages of Next Week's What If? Magik

Alternate-universe Illyana Rasputin, who didn't rejoin the X-Men after returning from Limbo in next week's What If? Magik, is having a rough go of things, and that's only in the first six pages seen in the preview below!

First, a scummy pickup truck drivers seems to believe Magik owes him sex after he gave her a ride as a hitchhiker, and he attempts to sexually assault Magik (but gets his ass kicked in the process). Not long after, Doctor Strange attempts to capture her, but once he uses his magic to learn what she's been through, he decides he needs to save her instead… whether she likes it or not.

Not okay, Strange! It doesn't matter if you're a Doctor! Since the premise of the book is that Illyana becomes sorcerer supreme, we can assume the doc gets what's coming to him. We'll find out next week.

What If? Magik #1 is in stores on Wednesday.

Before she was Magik, Illyana Rasputin was just a kid whom Limbo chewed up and spit out seven years older. So it's no surprise that, at 15, she wants nothing to do with the X-Men…nothing to do with the New Mutants…and nothing to do with her own powers. It's not even surprising that she runs away… but where – and who – she ends up? Well, that's something you've never seen before.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
