Will You Sympathize with a Nazi Jazz Enthusiast in Next Week’s War is Hell #1?

In next week’s War is Hell, part of Marvel’s 80th-anniversary celebration, Howard Chaykin introduces an unusual protagonist: a Luftwaffe pilot named Altbusser…

…with an affinity for jazz music, outlawed by his Nazi government.

As the tide of the war shifts in the Allies’ favor, Altbusser remains a music lover, even saving some records from a fire. He also demonstrates he doesn’t necessarily agree with the principles of the Nazis.

Altbusser reasons he fights for Nazi Germany out of patriotism.

But is that really any excuse? (Hint: no.)

The issue also features a story by Phillip Kennedy Johnson set in modern-day Afghanistan, though we don’t see that in the preview.

War is Hell #1 hits stores next Wednesday.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
