The Daily Mail is running what they are dubbing an exclusive story, saying that a number of nurses who have worked for Stan Lee in his home are claiming he groped them.
Lee, 95-year-old co-creator of the Marvel Universe and who still appears in cameos in TV shows and movies based on Marvel characters, and regularly appears at comic conventions where he attracts long lines of people willing to pay three figure sums for photos and signatures from the man.
The Daily Mail says they have confirmed that an established high-end nursing company has stopped taking work for Lee after complaints — and that nurses complained over his demands for oral sex in the shower and bedroom, being groped, and his walking around the house naked.
Lee’s lawyers have sent a cease and desist letter to the company employing the nurses, who cater for celebrities and high end clients, claiming defamation, with attorney Tom Lallas being quoted as saying “Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong” and suggested this was a shakedown for money from multi-millionaire Lee, who the Mail estimate to have a $50 million fortune. And that Lee denies the “false and despicable” claims and will clear his “stellar good name.
No complaint to the police or lawsuit from either party has yet been filed. Names and details of the nurses in question, and the company they worked for, have not been made public.
The Daily Mail claims that the situation arose after the owner of the nursing company told people that Stan Lee had sexually harassed every nurse that had been sent to the house, and the legal response was as a result of that information getting passed on to Lee. The owner of the company was a former nurse of Lee as well and had complained directly to Lee about the situation. They stopped working for him towards the end of last year. A cease and desist letter was sent by Tom Lallas on December 20th, and Lallas claims that rather than a civil action or police report being filed against Lee, he had received monetary demands for compensation, with threats to go to the media.
Lee’s current nursing company is quoted as saying that Lee has been “polite, kind and respectful” since they have worked with him.
Lee has been in the news again recently as the victim of cheque fraud and for an apartment bought in his name. He was also sued by an ex-assistant of his, Kaszluv Swarovski, in 2015, citing poor working practices, though that case went nowhere. His wife, Joan Lee, died last year.
