Marvel’s Incoming Super-Mega-Crossover Event Features Two X-Men Who Just “Died” [Spoilers?]

Earlier today, Marvel revealed the details on Incoming, the super-mega-crossover event murder mystery that will close out all the relaunches and super-mega-crossover events of 2019 and set the stage for the relaunches and super-mega-crossover events of 2020. We already knew that the book would feature our beloved X-Men in some way, with spandeXavier, Apocalypse, and Magneto featured in a teaser, but the official solicit tells us that X-Men scribe Jonathan Hickman will be involved in the event, along with his version of the mutants.

INCOMING #1 WRITTEN BY AL EWING. DAN SLOTT, CHIP ZDARSKY, KELLY THOMPSON, GREG PAK, EVE L. EWING, MATT ROSENBERG, ED BRISSON, SALADIN AHMED, TINI HOWARD, JONATHAN HICKMAN, DONNY CATES, AND JASON AARON; ART BY HUMBERTO RAMOS, JIM CHEUNG, AND MORE; COVER BY PATRICK GLEASON

ONE WILL UNITE THEM!

A mysterious murder brings together the heroes of the Marvel Universe in the search for a killer—but no one can imagine where the trail will lead, or how it will affect everything in 2020 and beyond!

The closing chapter to Marvel’s 80th year, which will connect the dots of everything that happened in 2019 and propel the narrative into the year that is to come! Featuring the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, Spider-Man, the Champions, the Agents of Atlas, Valkyrie, the Immortal Hulk, Jessica Jones, Venom, Ghost Rider, the Masked Raider, and more!

And sure enough, there are X-Men featured on the cover. Rogue. Jubilee. Cable. Cyclops. Wolverine. Wait, what? Wasn’t Wolverine sucked into the Sun in House of X #4 while Cyclops had his brains blown out? Sure, a Marvel death these days can hardly be considered permanent, but Marvel isn’t even making any effort to pretend these won’t be undone, featuring characters who were just killed not only on upcoming X-Men covers, but even right here on their big year-end super-mega-crossover event cover. Sure, they are all likely to be regrown from magic beanpods or whatever… but still!

And if these X-Men can come back so quickly from their gruesome deaths, then why should any of the heroes on this cover even care about whoever’s going to be sacrificed to kick off this super-mega-crossover event in the first place? Why do the heroes on this cover look so shocked? Marvel characters are killed off (and come back) at a rate of more than one per month nowadays. Don’t look so alarmed, Venom. Spider-Man, this is no big deal. Whoever that is will be back by the next super-mega-crossover event, if not sooner.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
