C.B. Cebulski Wants to Bring Back Legendary Creators for New Marvel Stories for 80th Anniversary

It looks like Marvel has got some lofty ambitions for their 80th anniversary, happening next year. We've already heard Cebulski's thoughts on the current mission of Marvel Comics, but what about the company's legacy?

On a recent episode of the Word Balloon podcast, host John Siuntres played a recording of a panel he led at TerrifiCon featuring Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, as well as two Marvel writers, Charles Soule and Nick Spencer. Well, three writers, if we count Cebulski's alter ego, Akira Yoshida. But that's neither here nor there.

During the panel, fans asked questions and Cebulski had some really interesting answers. One of the topics brought up, after discussion of the potential return of John Byrne to the X-Men and the definite return of Chris Claremont, was bringing back other legendary creators from Marvel's past. Cebulski was happy to oblige.

"We announced recently that next year is Marvel's 80th anniversary, and we have a lot of cool stuff planned, and part of what I really want to do is get a lot of creators who worked on some of those books back from those decades back and have them really contributing some kind of story to the Marvel mythos again," Cebulski said. "The way to drive forward the future, we can't forget our past. Those guys really built some of the blocks that we as editors and creators still stand on, and having them come back and be able to contribute again would be the best way to honor the Marvel anniversary, I feel."

What creators would you like to see return to Marvel? Let us know in the comments.
