C.B. Cebulski Says John Byrne Return is Top of Wishlist, More Chris Claremont X-Men Confirmed

On a recent episode of the Word Balloon podcast, host John Siuntres played a recording of a panel he led at TerrifiCon featuring Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, as well as two Marvel writers, Charles Soule and Nick Spencer. Well, three writers, if we count Cebulski's alter ego, Akira Yoshida. But that's neither here nor there.

During the panel, fans asked questions and Cebulski had some really interesting answers. One of the topics brought up was Marvel's plans for Chris Claremont in the X-Men universe, as well as Cebulski's recent meeting with John Byrne.

"I can't speak too much to the specifics of anything without giving too much away," Cebulski said of the future of the X-Books. "Cullen [Bunn] and Mark Guggenheim, what Charles [Soule] was doing on Astonishing, what Matt Rosenberg is doing on Astonishing now, what Tom Taylor is doing on X-Men Red, the X-books are in a really good place. And with Uncanny coming back in November, we have a lot of fun stuff planned. I think the fans are gonna be really happy because any X-Men you ever liked or not liked will be in that story. I'm a big Dani Moonstar fan, she;'s my favorite story, and I made sure that she'll have her time and place in the X-Men going forward."

"With Chris, we will be seeing more from Chris in the X-Men Universe in the near future," Cebulski confirmed. "I grew up on those stories, I love Chris, and he has a lot of things he still wants to say with those characters. We are gonna let him tell more tales very soon."

So there we have it. More Claremont confirmed. But where? Will it be on Uncanny? Pretty please?

"As for John, I did have a wonderful breakfast with John," said Cebulski of the more controversial Byrne. "I've been a fan. I geeked out for a while, told him how we met twenty-two years ago at Mid-Ohio Comic Con, I still own some Byrne original art that I have hanging on my wall. He was surprised to hear. So I am that big a fan. The meeting with John was casual. He is doing that great X-Men stuff online now. We did have a brief chat about that. We will be following up on some things. When I took over as Editor-in-Chief, I made a wish list. John Byrne's name is the first name on that list. It would be wonderful to have him back. But with John, we are slowly gonna start rebuilding that trust between him and with Marvel, and hopefully in the future we will see something, but I can't say now when that will be."

Is this something you're looking forward to? And who else is on Cebulski's wishlist? For the latter, we'll have to wait to find out, but post your thoughts on the former in the comments (no anti-Claremont stuff allowed).
