Matthew Rosenberg Takes Over Astonishing X-Men in July

It’s finally happened for Matthew Rosenberg. In what the writer described as “fulfilling a lifelong dream,” Rosenberg will take over as writer of Astonishing X-Men from Charles Soule in July, beginning with Astonishing X-Men #13.

Rosenberg has recently brought Jean Grey back from the dead again in the Phoenix Resurrection mini-series, is currently writing the New Mutants: Dead Souls mini, and will write a Multiple Man series this Summer. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride — that’s what they (we) said about ol’ Matty Rosenberg. But not anymore. Marvel has upgraded him to one of the four core X-titles (well, until we get that Uncanny X-Men reboot).

Rosenberg will be joined by Greg Land for his first story arc, which will introduce a new team consisting of Havok, Beast, Dazzler, Colossus, and Warpath. “It’s got a lot of nods to some of my favorite stories in X-Men history but also is going to be pushing things forward and challenging the future,” Rosenberg said on Twitter.

“I learned to read with X-Men comics,” he continued. “I survived tough times growing up through X-Men comics. X-Men comics helped shape my worldview and my personal politics. X-Men comics made me want to be a better person. And X-Men comics made me want to write comics.”

We love the X-Men too, Rosenberg. So you’d better do a good job. We’ll be watching.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
