Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios' Project Cars 2 will allow you to experience the joy that is rallycross when the game hits later this year. If you have no idea what rallycross is, these latest screenshots and a new trailer come with a bit of a crash course for you.

"Rallycross, one of the world's most thrilling and action-packed motorsports, will come fully-loaded to Project Cars 2 with an array of licensed cars and tracks. Rallycross combines the sideways dirt racing action of rally with the high-speed corner carving action of tarmac racing, all taking place within a closed course with 70-foot jumps, obstacles, and with other drivers in close proximity."

In order to get the authentic physics, visual fidelity, and driving dynamics you know Project Cars for, Slightly Mad Studios partnered with OMSE rallycross. Honda Factory Global Rallycross racing stars Mitchell deJong and Oliver Eriksson were hired on as consultants to make sure that Project Cars 2's rallycross mode comes across as similar as possible to driving in an actual rallycross event.

Project Cars 2 players will get to sit behind the virtual wheel of driving purpose-built rallycross cars like de Jong and Eriksson's Honda Red Bull GRC Civic Coupe on real-world rallycross tracks which include the US-based DirtFish and Daytona, Lånkebanen in Norway, and the original home of rallycross—Lydden Hill in the UK.

The game will launch later this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. We still don't have a set release date, but I would expect it to hit around the holiday season. The new rallycross trailer is below.
