Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 20th September 2015 – Tokyo Ghosted

TokyoGhost01-Cover-2x3-300-eaeaf

Same story as a month ago… While it's Star Wars that (now) traditionally takes the top spot, the bigger surprise is Invader Zim still in the top ten with its third issue. Clearly still lots of Zim-love to share…

Though the light saber-wielding Sex Criminals also makes a strong appearance, Tokyo Ghost's launch is very strong and DC Comics only manage to place one title, Harley Quinn….

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

1. Star Wars #9
2. Captain America White #1
3. Tokyo Ghost #1
4. Star Wars: Lando #4
5. Infinity Gauntlet #4
6. Guardians Of Knowhere #4
7. Sex Criminals #12
8. Age Of Apocalypse #4
9. Harley Quinn #20
10. Invader Zim #3

Thanks to the following retailers,

Who had this to say,

Star Wars is once again the top dog in the pound here. It even boosted up the Lando miniseries to number 2 for us as well. Tokyo Ghost was a solid seller as well. Anything that has Rick Remender's name on the cover sells pretty well for us, but throwing in Sean Murphy on art made this an even better seller!

Lots of people looking for Gwenpool. It's all about Gwenpool.

Decent week for sales. Star Wars #9 was the clear winner helping to almost clear the invoice day one. Tokyo Ghost performed well, but i thought it would have been closer to #1 than it was. The book has legs though which is good for the 2nd and 3rd issue to come.

Deadpool Secret War #2 Gwenpool variant was the book to get and i am now down to 25 after the initial hit over the weekend. Mockingbird #1 for Shield is still the sleeper that will pay the best dividends in the months to come with customers picking up 3-5 copies everyday.

And the collapse of DC hits new levels: not a single DC title made the top ten four our store this week! In fact, not a single DC title even made our top FIFTEEN this week. The creative and sales collapse of this company is unprecedented—never before have incompetent editorial decisions so alienated previously-loyal customers.

Great sales for Dark Horse Star Wars back issues and trades as fans try to fill in holes wherever possible.

Was surprised at how slow this week was. Star Wars was easily the number one seller. But this week was much lighter in sales than last. Some of the Secret Wars spin offs are dropping like flies sales wise. Such as House of M. Captain America White for taking years to finally come out did do well. That said a few bright spots in an other wise soft sales week. Makes me wish DC had done 3D covers again for this September.

Harley Quinn, Tokyo Ghost, Invader Zim, and Lady Mechanika dominate the top ten.  These titles are learning something very important, two covers, both at cover price means double the sales.  Star Wars breaks the ranks at #3. Captain America, Agent Carter, Spider Verse and Age of Apocalypse take 6,7,8 and 10th spot as Rat Queens comes in 9th. Lando drops out of the top ten for the first time.  Civil War trades have exploded and we have seen a surge for Johnny the Homicidal Maniac take center stage.

Terrible week for sales and next week looks like it might end up even worse. Secret Wars fatigue is in full swing and people just seem to hate DC.

Sex Criminals is our #2 seller of the week, helped by another XXX variant. Its been a long wait but Captain America: White didn't disappoint in content or sales. Surprising to me was All New Hawkeye coming in at #6 for the week. Shelf sales have slowed to less than a crawl but still have many subscribers carried over from the Fraction/Wu/Aja run.

Poor DC, Robin: SOB was their only charting book at #9.

Oh, and some licensed sci-fi book was #1.
