A New Rocket Raccoon Series From Skottie Young Starting In July

rocket-raccoonWell, the Free Comic Book Day comic in May was a big hint.

But from July, Rocket Raccoon gets his own series from Marvel Comics written and drawn by Skottie Young.

No 1 book of July? It's very possible.

Marvel PR gave MTV the news to run today, which they have done. The character has been booming in attention since the Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer started to go wide at comic conventions and then in the Superbowl ads. And with Rocket Raccoon the standout character, it seems natural that would be reflected in the comics publishing line.

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He's been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now–a raccoon on the run?! ( I'm sorry, I'm sorry, a "formidable-and-expert-Guardian" on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket's high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man–and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We'll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we've been waiting decades for.

Here's a look at the comic. And we'll be talking to Michael Mantlo, co-creator Bill Mantlo's brother, about Rocket Raccoon later today.
