Comic Book Musical Chairs

Comic Book Musical ChairsLooks like you'll be getting an extra four pages in the next issue of Justice League. But what else is going down?

Wel Jim Lee will also draw a four page gatefold spread for DC Comics' Free Comic Book Day comic, written by Geoff Johns.

Well as Marvel is boasting about cutting titles, DC are increasing them by bringing back annuals – which could be a useful place to put those fill-in issues originally commissioned but that now are no longer deemed necessary by the powers that be. The announced annuals for May seem to be all original though.

That includes Batman Annual #1 by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV and Jay Fabok with Mr Freeze and the Court Of Owls, Animal Man Annual #1 by Jeff Lemire and Timothy Green II focusing on the struggle between the Green, the Red and the Rot, Teen Titans Annual #1 by Scott Lodbell, Tom DeFalco and Brett Booth, crossing over with Ravagers, Legion Lost and Teen Titans.

Marvel have new pencillers… Barry Kitson replaceing Pepe Larraz on Mighty Thor #12.1, Giuseppe Camuncoli replacing Pasqual Ferry on Mighty Thor #12,  Mirko Colak, replacing Marco Checchett on Punisher #9 and Nick Dragotta replacing Juan Bobillo on FF #15.

And of course DC are playing musical chairs. My favourite Animal Man artist ever, Steve Pugh, will take over Travel Foreman on Animal Man from issue 9. I just hope he's allowed to use his thick ink build up style on the book.

Travel Foreman will move onto Birds Of Prey with issue 9, replacing Jesus Saiz on the book, as the title joins in with the Night Of The Owls crossover.

Jesus Saiz will move to Resurrection Man with issue 9, replacing Fernando Dagnino.

Fernando Dagnino moves to Suicide Squad with issue 9, for a Resurrection Man crossover.

Suicide Squad had been having its own musical chair moment for the last few issues with regular artist Federico Dallocchio returning for issue 8, after seeing Tom Raney draw issue 6 and Clayton Henry draw issue 7. What happens to Federico… DC haven't said. Not everyone wins at musical chairs…

Defenders #4 will have a new Dale Keown variant cover with every 25 copies ordered, with old variant covers for the series available to those who up their orders available for retailers who up their orders from issue 3 by 50%,

Marvel are also letting retailers get customised copies of Free Comic Book Day editions of Avengers #12.1 if they order 10,000 copies.

Supercrooks #4 will have a new Dave Gibbons variant cover, 1 in 25 of every regular copy.

And Dark Horse are supplying these Game Of Thrones holders with every ten packs of playing cards ordered…
