Paul Grist Tries to Explain The Union to Twitter

Last week Marvel announced the news that Marvel had teased, that Paul Grist and Andrea Di Vito were launching a new British superhero comic called The Union. Starring Union Jack, and four other heroes, each drawn from a different country, Brittania of England, Kelpie of Scotland, The Choir of Wales and Snakes of Northern Ireland. But not everyone is up with the optics. And when Marvel's Twitter account posted the following…

The Union Jack character is English, even though he is called union jack. So I'm using him as an English representative rather than introduce more English characters allowing people to complain the team is dominated by the English.

I know the Union Jack isn't english. But the character wearing the costume is. He's a character created by Marvel comics in 1976. Originally concieved as a WW 1 equivlant to Captain America.

Thats why we're NOT doing that. The Union Jack character is an established Marvel character. He is English, which is not the same thing. And that is the point being made.
