IDW Cancels “Magic The Gathering: Chandra: The Trials Of Alara” Comic Before Publication

Back in May, IDW announced a new Magic: The Gathering comic book series by James Asmus and Eric Koda, focussed on Chandra Nalaar and dubbed The Trials Of Alara.

Intended for publication in August, the first issue of Magic The Gathering: Chandra: The Trials Of Alara wasn’t published. Nor was the second. The comic was delayed until October but now all four solicited issues have had their orders cancelled, as well as for the intended collection, and no issues will now be published.

Here’s what was planned:

MAGIC THE GATHERING CHANDRA TRIALS OF ALARA #1 (OF 4) CVR A
(W) James Asmus (A) Eric Koda (CA) S. L. Gallant
Chandra Nalaar-Planeswalker, pyromancer, hero-bursts into a brand-new miniseries! On the formerly fractured plane of Alara, Chandra must protect a village in grave peril-no big deal, especially with a little help from fellow Planeswalker Jace Beleren. But what happens when the dust of battle clears, and Chandra is forced to contend with a problem that can’t be burned away?

From the explosive creative team of James Asmus (Gambit) and Eric Koda (Extraordinary X-Men) comes an essential addition to Magic’s ongoing story that fans won’t want to miss!

MAGIC THE GATHERING CHANDRA TRIALS OF ALARA #2 (OF 4) CVR A
(W) James Asmus (A/CA) Eric Koda
The mission continues as Chandra and Jace lead a reluctant and suspicious group of refugees through the Alaran wilds in search of a new home. Can the two of them agree on a plan before the dangers of Grixis overwhelm them? Two of Magic’s most popular characters, Chandra Nalaar and Jace Beleren, return to the fan-favorite plane of Alara!

MAGIC THE GATHERING CHANDRA TRIALS OF ALARA #3 (OF 4) CVR A
(W) James Asmus (A/CA) Eric Koda
Chandra and Jace’s trek continues as they guide the Bant refugees through hostile territory. With a whole host of Alaran threats bearing down on them, the mind mage takes extreme measures to give the caravan a fighting chance. Whether he succeeds or not, Chandra will have to shoulder the mantle of leadership alone. Will any of it make a difference?

MAGIC THE GATHERING CHANDRA TRIALS OF ALARA #4 (OF 4) CVR A
(W) James Asmus (A/CA) Eric Koda
Chandra and her beleaguered band of Bant sojourners-a reluctant leader with even more reluctant followers-have finally reached their new home, but they’re not out of the woods yet! In fact, with a less-than-enthusiastic welcome from the elves of Naya, they may be deeper in the woods than ever! With Jace incapacitated, can Chandra enact his contingency plan to save the day, or will she be left to her own devices?

Magic: The Gathering: Chandra – Trials of Alara Paperback

Pyromancer Chandra Nalaar’s newest adventure will test her like never before, but she’s doesn’t have to do it alone, thanks to fellow Planeswalker Jace Beleren!

On the formerly fractured plane of Alara, Chandra and Jace must protect a village in grave peril. But when the dust of battle clears, Chandra will have to choose between moving on to the next adventure or staying to help the survivors recover. What happens when Chandra faces a problem that can’t be burned away? Will she be able to shoulder the burden of leadership, or will her impulsive nature get the best of her? With the many threats of Alara’s patchwork landscape closing in, she’ll have to figure it out fast.

Collects the complete four-issue series.
