Action RPG "Decay of Logos" is Worth a Try on Xbox One

Rising Star Games and Amplify Creations have released action RPG Decay of Logos to the Xbox One as one of Microsoft's ID@Xbox titles. The game is already out on PC as well, where it has mixed reviews, but plenty of the troubles seem to be Day One launch issues. We didn't come across any of those problems while demoing the game at the ID@Xbox Showcase during PAX West, however, that was just a small slice of the game.

If you've never heard of the title before, the official description reads:

Embark on a journey of revenge and betrayal set in motion by the destruction of our young adventurer's village at the hands of Crimson Knights. Find solace in your mystical elk companion as you battle the unforgiving foes that roam this once peaceful realm. Venture into ancient ruins and dungeons in search of their rewards in a quest to find the truth behind the attack of Ada's home.

Take heed – there's a dark and treacherous force at work in this world that corrupts even its inhabitants.

  • Third-person action/adventure RPG with an emphasis on player exploration and minimal hand-holding.
  • Challenging combat with high risk-reward battle system; various short and long-range weapons featuring different move sets, combos, and ancient magic.
  • Elk companion system; strengthen your bond with the mystical elk as you solve environmental puzzles and unravel sinister mysteries.
  • Deep lore and intricate voice-acted narrative that will leave you guessing until the end of your journey through the far-reaching ancestral high-fantasy world of Decay of Logos.

One of the driving forces of Decay of Logos is its art style. The game is absolutely gorgeous, with simplified but elegant level and character designs. It's absolutely got that indie visual feel down, and the environments look absolutely fantastic. The gameplay has been described as Dark Souls meets The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in that brutal hack-and-slash sort of way, as your stats and weapons decrease upon death. While Decay of Logos certainly has its tricks, the combat isn't quite Souls-levels of unforgiving. So it's a step up from Breath of the Wild but it shouldn't be an insurmountable change for most players. While the PC combat controls have been a major sticking point with fans, the Xbox demo version wasn't the smoothest in terms of control mapping, but it was far from the worst I've ever played.

So, take that as you will, I suppose.

Decay of Logos is available on Xbox One and PC.
