Aquaman #50 Rings the Wedding Bells – Or Whatever They Do Underwater (Major Spoilers)

So we were promised, okay, teased, okay hinted at, okay I may have read too much inbetween the lines, for a marriage between Aquaman and Mera in today's Aquaman #50 as part of Monster Wednesday. Arthur is back, bringing his crew of demi-gods who still call him Andy, after forgetting about his wife and their child to be. And with Mera thinking Aquaman dead, and moving on as Queen Of Atlantis. Clearly their reunion will be a joyous one, joined by the pealing of wedding bells, or whatever the hell it is they do underwater. Punch dolphins in the stomachs or something.

So, Aquaman?

Aquaman Marriage

I do like how comic books can do that. You can pause for as long as you want, looking at Wonder Woman's reaction there. Two seconds. Five minutes. You know just what she's thinking – or rather you think you do. The audience gets to do the writing there. Sorry Kelly Sue, I know that's demarcation, but that's comics for you.

So with that kind of stupid, how is Mera reacting to the news?

Aquaman Marriage

Oh bloody hell. Anyway, Mera has her own issues, with division between her top advisors and figures of Atlantis, who a) are obsessed with an impending royal wedding between Mera and Aquaman, and b) Vulko in her court, despite having been a serial betrayer and no one agreeing to his presence. Thankfully Mera has the wisdom of Solomon – sorry, Caotain Marvel, you seemed to miss it in the Shazam movie. Maybe this is why…

Two seabirds, one stone.Aquaman Marriage

Probably neither did Aquaman. So longtime fans denied the marriage they were expecting, indeed one that until a few years ago, they thought they still had, will Kelly Sue give them any kind of sop? Actually, you know, she just might…

Aquaman Marriage

That'll do it.
