Someone Stole 14 Comics Worth $42,000 From Mile High in Denver

Mile High Comics of Denver is one of the oldest comic book stores, with a famous widest selections of comic books in the world. Quite a few valuable ones as well, as one thief discovered at the weekend. Chuck Rozanski posted the news to Facebook saying:

Fourteen Comics Worth $42,000 Stolen From Mile High in DenverSomeone broke into Jason St. last night through one of the rail dock doors, then stole 14 comics valued at $42,000+ by smashing through a locked showcase. He cut himself in the process, and we have a video recording. The person in the photo below is the only one who was in our store in the middle of the night. If you know him, we would very much like to have him identified. Whoever took our books did leave the first item (McFarlane original art) on the list below behind…

The list is as follows:

  • New Mutants #98 NM ($960)
  • Atom #1 VG ($999)
  • Amazing Adventures #4 VG ($454)
  • Avengers #1 G ($7350)
  • Tales To Astonish #54 F ($252)
  • Iron Man #1 F ($1715)
  • Amazing Spider-Man #129 Signed Gerry Conway NM ($7350)
  • Thor #109 F ($772)
  • Fantastic Four #52 VG ($1960)
  • Justice League Of America #1 F ($15,000)
  • All Star Comics #18 ($1867)
  • Batman #103 G ($290)
  • Batman #123 VG ($549)
  • Original Superman Fan Club Letter ($3000)

It was originally thought the thief had  also stolen some Todd McFarlane original art but this was found abandoned at the comic shop.

After smashing three panes of glass of the store's showcase, the thef appears to have cut himself on the broken glass, then tried to clean up the crime scene using using toilet bowl cleaner. Security footage shows the thief picking specific comics and putting them in a plastic bin.

Anyone who knows anything, or anyone who is approached to buy these comics, is encouraged to get in touch.
