‘American Gods’: Ricky Whittle’s Optimus Prime Obsession More Than Meets The Eye [VIDEO]

We’ve all been where Amercian GodsRicky Whittle has been: that dark limbo of despair and longing for that one present we wanted when we were a kid that we never got. For us, it was about getting our hands on either Combattra, Dangard Ace, or Raideen from Mattel’s Shogun Warriors collection – the pretty cool Marvel Comics series written by Doug Moench and drawn by Herb Trimpe. For Whittle, it was about owning the one Transformer who was the “more-iest” of “The More Than Meets The Eye”: Optimus Prime.

Check out Whittle’s tale of childhood woe to learn how hope led to heartbreak, what “The Prime Minister” meant to him, and (unlike us, because the eBay praces on Shogun Warriors are f*****g obscene) a possible happy ending to our tale – with a sweet son-mom mic drop to nicely wrap things up with:

Which bring us squarely back to 2019 and Whittle’s day job on this week’s episode of American Gods, “Treasure of the Sun” – where the war between the old and new gods appears to be taking a backseat to turmoil within each respective camp – or at least when it comes to the old gods. Because from what we can see in the preview below, Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) has had enough of his “servitude” towards Wednesday (Ian McShane) – and has some truths to share with a “newly weaponized” Shadow. Meanwhile, Laura’s (Emily Browning) learning from Mama-Ji (Sakina Jaffrey) she might be a bigger player in this game than she realized…

American Gods Season 2, Episode 7 “Treasure of the Sun”: In Cairo, Mr. Wednesday entrusts Shadow with Gungnir. Mad Sweeney, plagued by the cries of Banshees, recalls his journey through the ages as he awaits his promised battle, and once again, warns Shadow about Wednesday. Meanwhile, Laura receives sage advice from Mama-Ji, and Bilquis finds an audience.

We were forged in God’s image, but the Gods are also made in ours — and in Season Two the battle moves inexorably toward crisis point as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World plots revenge for the attack against him in Season One, Shadow throws in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow.

A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos, sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois: forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods — a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice.
