'The Flash' Showrunner Todd Helbing Stepping Down; EP Eric Wallace Begins Season 6

While maybe not on quite the same level as the recent news of Arrow leaving the CW with a shortened eighth season, changes within the "Arrowverse" continue with word that The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing is stepping down from the role at the end of season 5, with executive producer Eric Wallace (Teen Wolf, Eureka) stepping in as showrunner beginning with the sixth season.

"From his first day on The Flash, Todd Helbing has been a leader on the show, beloved by the cast and crew for his exceptional talent, vision and wonderful attitude. We are all sad to see him go, but we will all be better for the many shows he will no doubt create and run in the future.

Eric Wallace has proven his own exceptional talent and voice since season four, and we couldn't be more thrilled to watch how he shapes the future of Team Flash and the many thrilling adventures that lay ahead for our characters and dedicated fans."

– Greg Berlanti, Producer

After serving as series showrunner for two seasons, Helbing is looking to develop new projects under his overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. The Flash was recently renewed for a sixth season, getting a new season order alongside fellow DC series Arrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The CW's DC Universe is set to be joined by a Batwoman pilot starring Ruby Rose – with all series/characters expected to play a role in this fall's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover.
