'The Shop' – LeBron James on Colin Kaepernick: "Beautiful Sport Was Taken Away from Him" [VIDEO]

Three-time NBA champion, Olympic gold medalist, and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James isn't someone known for staying quiet on important social issues. In fact, it's one of the reasons why he worked with HBO and Maverick Carter's digital media company Uninterrupted to develop The Shop. During each episode of the unscripted series, James and a number of known names in sports and entertainment debate and discuss some of the important topics of the day.

During the show's second-season premiere Friday night on HBO, James addressed the topic of former National Football League player Colin Kaepernick and his recently settled lawsuit against the NFL. James praised Kaepernick for the "sacrifice" he made when he took a knee to protest police violence and systemic racism during the national anthem at NFL games. James believes the league conspired to keep Kaepernick from playing, and believes the ex-QB is more than deserving of the reported $60 million to $80 million settlement.

"Kap's still for something that was bigger than him. He sacrificed. How many people can wake up and say, you know what? I'll give everything that I've worked for my whole life for the better of the conversation. Oh, I'm gonna lose everything I got personally for the better of the conversation. That's why we can sit here and salute Kap."

As for why Kaepernick is more than deserving of the reported lawsuit settlement:

"I hope that whatever the amount of money he got sets him up for him, his kids, his grandkids, and his grandkids' kids' kids. I hope it's that much money, I really do. Because the beautiful sport was taken away from him. So, I hope that whatever the settlement was, it sets generations up forever."

HBO Sports is collaborating with LeBron James and Maverick Carter's digital media company, Uninterrupted, to present the unscripted series The Shop, exclusively on HBO. Offering unfiltered conversation and debate with some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment, the show will air periodically throughout the year.

The Shop is back in business. In the Season 2 premiere, LeBron James and Maverick Carter sit down with an all-new crew, including Anthony Davis, Antonio Brown, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Jamie Foxx and Jerrod Carmichael.
