Tom King Teases a Death in Upcoming Batman Issue

Former Director of the CIA Tom King has a weird relationship with death. Speaking of a Superman comic he wrote in which Superman imagined Lois Lane being brutally murdered over and over again, King once said, "To me this is a metaphor for the best parts of love." And of course, King is the writer of Heroes in Crisis, a comic in which Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman form a trauma shelter to help DCU heroes deal with PTSD, and then everyone there gets murdered.

So it's no surprise that King has another death planned for an unnamed issue of Batman, teasing on Twitter:

So who is going to die to show how much Batman really loves them? King isn't spilling the beans, so we'll have to leave it up to speculation. Below, see Mikel Janin's cover to the upcoming issue, which King points out is not actually Batman #57, even though it says so on the cover. King also seems to imply that the cover was originally drawn for Detective Comics, so it could be that the Bat-Death will occur in some kind of event or crossover between the two books. Some mean nerd on Twitter pointed out that King was saying "D.C. Comics," so nevermind that last sentence.

King returns to writing Batman with Batman #66 after taking a break while Joshua Williamson writes a crossover with The Flash.

The "Knightmares" storyline continues! Something-or someone-is forcing Batman to live through some of his darkest fears, amplifying the Dark Knight's anxieties and reimagining some of his worst traumas. Now that Batman has become aware of the nature of these delusions, he must find a way to break through and find out the source of this disruption. So who does he turn to for answers? Why, the Question, of course! But is Vic Sage just another figment of the Caped Crusaders imagination?

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
