Nintendo Boasts the Switch Being This Generation's Fastest Selling Console

Nintendo announced today, as we slowly make our way to Christmas next week, that the Nintendo Switch is this generation's fastest selling console. At least, within the U.S., the company only provided information regarding North American sales, citing it has sold 8.7 million units and is out-pacing other consols at the same point in their lifecycles. As well as touting the success of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as it sold three million units in 11 days. Here's a quick quote from the press release.

"We are thrilled to see such a strong reaction from consumers in the second holiday season for Nintendo Switch," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We're looking forward to delivering more excitement and smiles to our fans in the coming year and beyond."

It's a nice achievement for the company to reflect on as the Switch isn't even two years old. But they still have a long road to go if they want to surpass current overall sales of either the PS4 or the Xbox One to-date. They're on the right path, no doubt. But it'll be interesting to see how their third year goes.
