What Can Hex Codes Tell You About Pokémon? Everything

If you don't sit around plugging hexidecimal color codes into programs for a living, you probably never noticed the correlation between Pokémon stats and Hex codes. Although, if you've ever stumbled across the Glitch City wiki, maybe you already know some of this. The original Pokémon games were programmed using hex codes for a number of things, from inventorying all items, Pokémon, and moves in the games to the stats of each Pokémon.

So basically, knowing Hex codes is like the ultimate cheat code to the early Pokémon games, and its how your Game Shark got you access to Mew.

However, if you ever bothered to pay attention to your Pokémon's stats, you might have noticed that the max value for any stat was 510. Which correlates to the max value of a Hex code. And by editing Hex codes, with a pretty insane process of glitch steps, you can actually get yourself some flawless Pokémon in your game with absolutely maxed out values.

Which basically means that nearly everything in a game of Pokémon can be hacked just by knowing hexidecimal numbers.

And yes, you can still do this. Only, with the first and second generation of games. Though the Hex values for stat maximums remains, even in Pokémon Go.

However, because Pokemon Let's Go is based in Pokémon Yellow, some bits of the hex glitches might still work. So far, it seems no one has tried.

Not that we're telling you to go breaking any Nintendo games, but if you do manage to use any of the hex edit tricks, we'd be fascinated to know.
