Grinchlike Doctor Who Showrunner Chris Chibnall Declares War on Christmas

In a move that clearly sends the message “bah humbug,” Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall has reportedly decided not to make a Christmas Special for the show this year, breaking 13 years of tradition and landing Chibnall a spot amongst some of Christmas’s most notorious detractors, such as Ebenezer Scrooge, The Grinch, and people who say “Happy Holidays.”

No reason was stated for the change, which was first reported by reflective U.K. newspaper The Mirror, but previous showrunner Steven Moffat had once claimed the show’s writers had run out of ideas (not that that’s ever stopped them before): “I sort of think we might have mined, and possibly over mined, every single thing we could about Christmas in Doctor Who and the last time we more or less ignored it.”

Thankfully, Chinball’s War on Christmas hasn’t taken away our extra episode of Doctor Who. Instead, the show will have a New Years special instead, airing on New Years Day and about the coming of 2019. The biggest thing we need to know about 2019, by the way? It might not have any more Doctor Who after the New Years Special, as filming for the next season reportedly won’t begin until next year, potentially pushing the season premiere into 2020.

We have to say, while we’ve been enjoying this season so far, we actually prefer our Doctor Who in the same way we prefer our X-Men comics: regularly. Sure, big cinematic budgets and clever plots are nice to have, but we’d really rather it just come out on time and on a predictable schedule.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
