As the licensing wars continue to heat up, Dark Horse has announced a new partnership with Mojang AB and Microsoft to produce the first officially licensed Minecraft OGN. We can’t think of a better way to target young readers with comics than by teaming up with Minecraft. Well, okay, maybe if it was a comic about watching YouTube videos of other people playing Minecraft. But this is close enough. Sfé R. Monster, Sarah Grayley, and John J. Hill are the creative team for Minecraft Volume 1, set to hit stores next Summer.
A press release contains more details:
In Minecraft Volume One, everyday kid Tyler’s life is changed when his family moves away from the town he’s always known. Thankfully, Tyler has a strong group of friends forever linked in the world of Minecraft! Tyler, along with his friends Evan, Candace, Tobi, and Grace, have gone on countless adventures together across the expanses of the overworld and are in need of a new challenge. They decide to go on the Ultimate Quest—to travel to the End and face off against the ender dragon!
Says Dark Horse President Mike Richardson, who definitely knows what a Minecraft is:
We are very excited at the prospect of bringing Minecraft to comics. The world of Minecraft is vast with countless stories to tell. We look forward to working with the great people at Mojang AB and Microsoft to bring these stories to its enormous fan base.
And Mojang AB Chief Brand Officer Lydia Winters:
We can’t wait to follow the incredible imaginations that Dark Horse’s comic creators will bring to the world of Minecraft.
We were unable to reach Sfé R. Monster for comment, but we did speak to their cousin Cookie, who told us:
M is for Minecraft. That’s good enough for me.
The 80-page graphic novel will retail for $9.99.
