Mike Colter Hopes for James Gunn Reinstatement as Don Cheadle and Chris Evans Deny Unfollowing Fired Guardians of the Galaxy Director

The stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continue to line up and take sides on the issue of former Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. Following the release of a letter of support from the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy, Mike Colter, star of Marvel TV’s Luke Cage and The Defenders, sent Gunn a tweet of support.

Colter chose Gunn’s apology thread from immediately after the firing to respond Wednesday. Gunn was dropped by Disney after offensive Twitter jokes from a decade prior were surfaced as part of an organized political campaign to punish Gunn for his criticism of President Donald Trump. The jokes included topics such as pedophilia, rape, and the Holocaust. In the wake of the firing, Marvel stars like Dave Bautista pointed to the campaign’s political motivation, defending Gunn as a changed man since his edgelord days, calling the firing “a cybernazi attack that succeeded.”

Not everyone on the Marvel banner has made their stance on the matter clear, however. According to ComicBook.com, actors Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans unfollowed Gunn on Twitter after the firing, and as that story picked up steam in the clickbait media, other actors like Don Cheadle were included in the narrative. However, Cheadle responded:

And Chris Evans also denied unfollowing Gunn:

Neither man, however, went out of their way to defend Gunn either.

A petition to reinstate Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has reached 360,000 signatures as of press time.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
