Uh, remember when we said that DC had “locked down” the publishing dates for their new publishing imprints geared respectively at Young Readers and Young Adults, DC Zoom and DC ink? Well, it turns out that “locked down” doesn’t mean what we thought it did. At the Diamond Retailer Summit at C2E2 Thursday morning, DC announced that the launch of both lines would be pushed back to either the first or second quarter of 2019. According to DC, the purpose of the delay is to better promote the lines before the books are released.
The previously released schedule originally saw DC Super Hero Girls: Search for Atlantis by Shea Fontana being released under the Zoom imprint in October 2018. DC Ink titles like Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass by Mariko Tamaki and Steve Pugh and Mera by Danielle Page would also have been released in 2018, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until some time in the first half of 2019 for those books. Subsequent books scheduled for 2019 could also be pushed back as a result of the delay.
Even with the delay, DC’s plans to launch multiple imprints could make a big impact on the comics industry, targeting readers outside existing direct market customers and hopefully bringing them into stores.
