Overwatch League's Florida Mayhem are Raising Money for Parkland Shooting Victims

It isn't much of a stretch to see how the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida would affect the Overwatch League's Florida Mayhem. Since the team is made up of Overwatch pros from the Sunshine State, the team has decided to honor the victims of the shooting and help raise money for them.

The Mayhem players tweeted a message of their support to the victims yesterday, stating that they will be wearing patches representing Stoneman Douglas High School during their OWL matches.

Their tweet also included an aggregate page of fundraising links from the Sun Sentinel and a GoFundMe campaign.

"The Florida Mayhem players will come to the stage this week wearing patches honoring the community of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High following last week's horrible event," the statement starts. "Everyone in our organization has been touched by the impact of the act and the strength of those affected, and as proud representatives of Florida we wish to demonstrate our support and promote continued positive outreach by the larger Overwatch population."

The Mayhem team's CEO Ben Spoont also voiced his support for the community's calls for new gun legislation, saying, "we felt a need to try to honor not only the victims but also the message and passion that the community has since voiced."

The next Florida Mayhem game is Saturday, February 24th against the Philadelphia Fusion.
