Pokémon Go Players Can Now Buy New Outfits with Medals

Pokémon Go is adding a trio of new outfits players can buy, but these have a new twist: You have to earn them first. The new outfits — Jogger, Battle Girl, and Fisherman — require players to earn corresponding medals in-game. The announcement came through the official Pokémon Go Twitter account.

For Jogger items, players need to travel 10, 100, and 1,000 kilometers to earn three different rewards. For the Battle Girl set, players must win 10, 100, and 100 gym battles. For the Fisherman set, players must catch catch 3, 50, and 300 big Magikarp (indicated by the "XL" on the Magikarp's information screen).

After they've met those requirements, players will still have to pay for the items with in-game currency which can be purchased with real money.

So not only do you have to pay for these outfits, you have to earn the right to do so first. It's a bit of an interesting decision, as normally in-game items are either purchased for in-game currency or are earned through achieving specific objectives. That these outfits require both is almost overzealous. However, with the popularity of Pokémon Go we'll likely see this one work out as a success for Niantic Labs.

The game recently saw a nature documentary-style trailer featuring actor Stephen Fry, and some players might be seeing outages in their GPS service due to the United States Air ForcePokémon GO will also be getting a community day soon.
