Watch Ben Passmore's 'Your Black Friend' as an Animated Short Film

So you want to read smart and insightful indie comics, but you just don't have the time. We feel you. Reading is hard. And Silver Sprocket feels you too, so they've teamed up with Doggo Studios to produce an animated short based on Ben Passmore's Ignatz-winning and Eisner-nominated Your Black Friend. Narrated by Passmore, with animation by Krystal Downs and Alex Krokus, "help" by Stephen Duffy, and sound by James Deangelis, the animated film will leave you wanting more after you watch it.

Unfortunately, that means you'll have to read that indie comic after all, but nothing worth having in life comes without a little effort.

Addressing topics of racism, identity, and alienation, the comic is a necessary contribution to the dialogue around race in the United States.

In February, Silver Sprocket will publish Your Black Friend and Other Strangers, a hardcover collection featuring the aforementioned comic as well as others comics by Passmore. You can preorder it on Amazon now. Check out the description:

In Your Black Friend and Other Strangers, Ben Passmore masterfully tackles comics about race, gentrification, the prison system, online dating, gross punks, bad street art, kung fu movie references, beating up God, and lots of other grown-up stuff with refreshing doses of humor and lived relatability. The title comic earned Passmore a much deserved Eisner nomination, Ignatz Award for "Outstanding Comic", and a coveted spot on NPR's 100 Favorite Graphic Novels list.

The comics in this 120-page collection include works previously published by The Nib, VICE, and the As You Were anthology, along with brand new and unreleased material.

These comics are essential, humorous, and accessible, told through Passmore's surreal lens in the vibrant full-color hues of New Orleans.
