Paolo Pantalena Sketches Batman and Deathstroke

I've posted a lot of the DC Comics Art Academy videos over the last year or two, and they're a lot of fun to watch. They're a chance to see an artist do their thing while they answer questions. But this newest one is a bit of extra fun for me in that it's with an artist I've worked with in the past. Paolo Pantalena is the artist on DC's Deathstroke and Red Hood series, but 10 years ago he and I were starting up the 1,001 Arabian Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad series for Zenescope. This was early on with the publisher when they had just got Return to Wonderland off the ground and wanted to expand. The characters were designed by Gus Vasquez who did the zero issue and the Paolo did issues one and two. I loved his work at the time and am extremely happy to see him working over at DC.

The video talks about Paolo's influences including Jim Lee and Marc Silvestri. Some of the early comics he read being Spawn, Spider-Man, and WildCATS. He also talks about the fact he has been drawing a lot of villains as heroes. While he's answering questions, he's working on a sketches of Batman and Deathstroke.
