Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 1: Looking at Mahershala Ali’s Cottonmouth

Marvel’s Luke Cage season 1 came out on Blu ray/DVD yesterday with a box cover art by Joe Quesada. They’ve also released a short featurette about Mahershala Ali’s character Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes. He was one of four villains going up against Luke Cage (Mike Colter) along with Theo Rossi as Hernan ‘Shades’ Alvarez, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard and Erik LaRay Harvey as Willis ‘Diamondback’ Stryker. And while the others each brought something unique to the show, Cottonmouth was the one you couldn’t stop watching.

Pervious Blu-ray collections in the Marvel / Netflix line have not had any featurettes, so this may be just to promote it or it could be on the disc. Colter is joined by Simone Missick who plays Misty Knight and writer/producer Aida Croal in talking about what made Ali’s performance such a standout.

A second season of Luke Cage is in post-production and Finn Jones will be appearing as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist to give fans the Heroes for Hire aspect for at least part of the season. Back in July, Marvel announced the casting of Mustafa Shakir as John McIver aka Bushmaster, and Gabrielle Dennis as Tilda Johnson aka Nightshade.

No released date for season 2 has been set yet.
