Nothing About Any Upcoming Release Of Wonder Woman Is R-Rated

wonderwomanladder

Normally, something not happening wouldn't be a news story, but in this particular instance, we feel compelled to tell you, that contrary to what you heard, there are no plans for the upcoming Wonder Woman film to have an R-rated director's cut. Furthermore, we should inform you that an upcoming rerelease of the 2009 Wonder Woman animated feature film will also not be an R-rated director's cut. Basically, with anything Wonder Woman related that's coming out in the foreseeable future, you can assume that nothing about it will have an R-rating.

So how did we find ourselves in this predicament? Well, it started out when a site called FilmRatings.com listed an upcoming home video release called "Wonder Woman: Director's Cut" with an R-rating. The listing was picked up as a news story by CBM, and then began spreading to other sites such as CBR like a bad case of VD. Soon after, everyone figured out that the listing was not for a home video release of this Summer's Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot, but actually a rerelease of a 2009 animated feature, so all of the stories were updated to reflect that it was this Wonder Woman, and not the other Wonder Woman, that would have an R-rated director's cut. But wait! We weren't done yet.

As it turns out, according to CBR, the listing was due to an attempt to restore cut footage from the 2009 animated film in hopes that censors had loosened up since then and would give the animated feature a PG-13 rating. When the proposed release was given an R rating instead, Warner Bros decided that they would just release the original cut in its PG-13 form.

And so, as it turns out, there are no planned R-rated director's cuts of Wonder Woman, live action or animated, in the cards. However, there could eventually be plans for an R-rated director's cut of the live action film, after it is released and those decisions are made, if the situation warrants it, like with Batman v. Superman. Additionally, in a few years, Warner Bros could try again with the animated film, and maybe by that time, censors will stop being such prudes. Who knows? Not us. And not you either, despite the fact that both of us wasted our time with this article.
