Sensing Weakness In Rival Gerard Way, Claudio Sanchez Brings Back Amory Wars At BOOM! In April

Throughout his comics career, Claudio Sanchez has always found himself frustratingly one step behind Gerard Way. While Sanchez sang with his band Coheed and Cambria for five years before being able to parlay it into a comics career in 2000, Way had been writing comics since 1993, and just kind of fell into success with his band, My Chemical Romance, by accident in 2001. While Sanchez has published several Amory Wars series at BOOM! Studios that serve as companions to Coheed and Cambria's albums, Way was given an entire publishing imprint at DC, Young Animal. That damn Gerard Way just keeps beating Claudio Sanchez no matter what he does!

However, cracks have begun to show in Way's impenetrable armor. A series of delays has plagued Way's flagship Young Animal title, Doom Patrol, with the fourth issue, originally set for December 14, not coming out until today. Sensing that this is his moment to strike, Claudio Sanchez has announced that he will launch a new 12-issue series, The Amory Wars: Good Apollo, in April at BOOM!, and every issue is planned to ship on time.

From CBR, here's the official description of the book, on which Sanchez teams with Chondra Echert and Rags Morales:

The evil Wilhelm Ryan remains in power. All those around Claudio Kilgannon are now convinced he is The Crowing, but is he? Ambellina believes she and The Crowing can save Heaven's Fence rather than destroying it. But with Ryan and a new, even bigger threat looming—can they succeed?

To support the book and make sure he finally beats Way, just once, after all these years, Sanchez will lead Coheed and Cambria on a tour this spring to support the comic. It will be a hard fought battle, but we wish Sanchez the best of luck in his lifelong quest.

A lot of people believe that Claudio Sanchez and Gerard Way are simply two completely unrelated people who have found success in both music and comics, but as you can see, those people are totally wrong. We didn't make up any of this report to create hype, drama, and attention for The Amory Wars: Good Apollo, which hits stores in April.

Here's the solicit and covers for the first issue:
