Justice League Could Be "Rebirth" Of Fun For The DC Cinematic Universe, Says Affleck

We've known for some time that DC's upcoming Justice League film is expected to offer a lighter tone than past films in the DC Cinematic Universe. Normally, this wouldn't be saying much, as DC's movies are typically so dark and grim, Schindler's List would be considered lighter than Man of Steel or Batman v. Superman. However, Batman actor Ben Affleck dropped a major hint in an interview with Hey U Guys that could indicate there's something to these promises.

"It was great, and there's a lot of changes and a lot of new stuff. There was a whole feeling of kind of 'rebirth' and there's an exciting group of actors," Affleck said of the filming of Justice League. "You know, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa and guys like that, so much fun, and Gal Gadot who's great and Henry Cavill. It was a lot of fun."

Fun? What is this… fun?

More importantly, will "fun" during the filming translate on screen? It's worth noting that Affleck specifically mentions "Rebirth," the recent quasi-reboot of the DC comics universe that aims to bring favorite elements of DC's post-Crisis continuity back, if not completely eliminating the continuity of the Nu 52. One of the changes from Rebirth was a recently revealed new costume for Superman, shown in this shocking image:

Do you see anything incredibly out of the ordinary about that picture? That's right! Superman is… smiling!

This guy…

…is actually smiling.

So does Ben Affleck's reference to Rebirth indicate that heroes might smile in the DC Cinematic Universe in Justice League? It sounds totally crazy, but Affleck doubled down on these claims in an interview with Cineplex:

"Justice League, you probably saw the teaser that came out of Comic-Con; I thought it is nicely emblematic of the kind of minor tone shift and segue in storytelling," he said during the interview. "It's a little bit lighter, the characters are a little bit more comfortable in themselves, so they can express a wider array of emotions. And there are just more people in it, so it's more fun."

There's that word again. "Fun."

Justice League is set to hit theaters in November.
