A Warning From Adi Granov

IMG_26331Adi Granov has publicly posted a warning on Facebook a warning to other artists. He writes,

Some time ago I posted about the con organizer who I traded some art with and did a commission for as a part of the deal, who decided that commission was a free present to him and I owed him another. He hounded me for it for years until finally getting threatening at the last London Super Con. Not to recount the whole story again, but I told him he'd never get another free, or otherwise painting from me. I was furious, but I wanted to be done with it so I asked him which art he traded with me he wanted me to return to him. He said a specific piece, and I told him he would get it back. I don't owe it to him to return anything as he got all of the art we agreed on, including the commission. He offered to return that commission in exchange for this piece I am returning to him, I told him that he can either return it or destroy it.

6 months go by without a word, until today. I get an email from him with a list of three pieces (WTF?) he wants returned, including one from a completely different con from a completely different time which had absolutely nothing to do with the aforementioned trade… No mention whatsoever of that commission he is meant to return or destroy.

So, while I was happy to not name names and just be done with this whole thing, Slaven Goricki is a massive crook who has no shame of any kind. He organizes the Zagreb con in Croatia and pretends to be an art dealer. I should've known better then to do a deal with him, and it was a mistake I've ever since regretted.

The only reason I offered to return the piece of art of his choice to him in exchange for the commission being returned or destroyed (which due to his specific personal request isn't something I will want to resell), is to make 100% sure to be forever done with him. But I should've known better that he would try to escalate it even more and squeeze more out from me as he is the worst scum.

I believe he misinterpreted my politeness and willingness to talk to him (he is incredibly unpleasant) as a sign of weakness and something to exploit. This is a mistake.

The reason I am writing about this here now is not to complain, or whine about this. I am doing it as a warning to those thinking of dealing with Slaven. I know some of you have already dealt with him, been guests in Zagreb, etc., and I know many of you already know what a horrible individual he is. But to those of you who don't, feel free to trust what I wrote, or not, but it's a sincere warning based on four years of dealing with him.

Slaven Goricki did not respond to inquiries made yesterday.
