Scenes From 9/11 Used As Research For Tomorrow's Invincible Iron Man #12

In 2003, comic book artists Chris Weston was asked at a British comic convention what the impact of the events of September 11th 2001 were on comic book artists, He gave possibly the most honest answer I've heard, "well it's good for research."

In the genre of superhero comics, it has become more and more likely to superheroes to smash each other through skyscrapers and see them tumble. The difference between before 2001 and after, is that we all know what that actually looks like now. And it's something that superhero films have also taken to heart with Batman V Superman probably being the most extreme of this, with Bruce Wayne running into the cloud of debris as his building falls to the ground.

Tomorrow's Invincible Iron Man #12, as well as featuring the first meeting of Tony Stark and the new Iron Man, Riri Williams, features the aftermath of  destruction of Stark Tower at the hands of persons possibly unknown.

And, in preview art, we see that destruction.

Some of those details feel rather familiar. While the art is original, here are some of the elements it seems were used to research this scene from Ground Zero.
