The dropping of David Hayter as the voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid V was a controversial decision when it was announced Kiefer Sutherland was taking over the role. It’s pretty much stayed that way too.

Hayter talked pretty brashly about the experience of getting dropped from the role in the latest GameInformer (via GameSpot) podcast. He has revealed that he wasn’t kept in the loop on the situation, only to find out after bumping into a producer at a recording studio the company was going another way. He then bumped into English casting director Kris Zimmerman, who reportedly told him,

‘We’re going forward, but it looks like they are going to try and replace you.’ They tried to do that before, and it never worked. They tried to get voice matches, and it never happened.

On top of that, Hayter doesn’t seem all that eager to work with game director Hideo Kojima again. He boldly stated:

I’ve got no particular love for Kojima. I don’t feel any need to go back and work with him again.

You should give the podcast episode a listen if you can. It goes much deeper into Hayter’s time with the franchise and how he left. It’s all pretty interesting.
