Let's Talk Intersectionality on Feminism and Comics, with Emma Vieceli as guest.
Gosh! will be hosting a special (but now regular) edition of Let's Talk Intersectionality, discussing the state of feminism in comics and culture. We'll have some brief presentations and provocations about interesectional issues in comics and then we'll break up in small groups to chat. Co-hosted by Lauren Murphy and Lisa Woynarski. With a commentary on the Angouleme Festival from Nora Goldberg.

We've invited three incredible creators, Barbara Yelin, Hannah Berry and Catherine Anyango – whose work can currently be seen in Comix Creatrix: 100 Women Making Comics – to discuss their work, ideas and influences with Paul Gravett.

House of Illustration's own fast and furious evening of back-to-back presentations bringing up to a dozen leading illustrators into one room to share their work and ideas. Patrice Aggs, Rachael Ball, Kate Evans, Karrie Fransman, Isabel Greenberg, Kripa Joshi, Nicola Lane, Sarah Lightman, and Alison Sampson.
Each of them has six minutes to tell you as much or as little as they like about what do and what they think. As a starting point they've been asked to tell us what other work they would have liked to include in the exhibition Comix Creatrix: 100 Women Making Comics

Dr Simon Grennan and Dr Julian Waite, of the University of Chester and Professor Roger Sabin of Central Saint Martins, will focus on Duval's maverick and free-wheeling approaches to fashion, tourism and the stage, drawing on the new Marie Duval Archive, which launches this month.

Get to grips with the fundamentals of of writing and illustrating a graphic novel, including editing, storyboarding, and presenting a dummy book. Author-illustrator Caral Adlam will guide participants through the process and share insights from her own extensive experience.

Acclaimed American author Craig Thompson in conversation with comics authority Paul Gravett
In the tradition of plucky heroines like Alice, and their astonishing adventures, Craig Thompson's new character Violet is on an intergalactic quest to save her father in a bizarre polluted future. Acclaimed American author Thompson combines breathtaking imagination, poignant family drama and sharp ecological awareness in Space Dumplins – his first full-colour graphic novel for all ages. In his exclusive London speaking appearance, he also discusses his award-winning graphic novels – the autobiographical breakthrough Blankets and his powerful Islamic fairytale Habibi. In conversation with Paul Gravett, author of Comics Art and co-author of Comics Unmasked: Art and Anarchy in the UK. The event will be followed by a book signing.

Join illustrator and comic artist Jade Sarson for a fabulous manga illustration workshop. Jade's prizewinning book For the Love of God, Marie! will be published by Myriad in July.
Taking inspiration from her work, which is a fusion of British and Japanese influences, Jade will share her insights and show participants how to create dynamic characters and storylines. By the end of the afternoon, you'll have a fabulous finished manga comic page to take home!
Suitable for ages 5+, with places for 15 children. All children must be accompanied.

Join Laurent Seksik, illustrator Fabrice Le Hénanff, and comics scholar Paul Gravett, as they discuss the life of Amedeo Clemente Modigliani (12 July 1884 – 24 January 1920). How they portray the Italian painter and sculptor in the last years of his life; the intense power of visual storytelling and what makes images move.
