Final Fantasy 7 Remake Developers On If It Is Open World Or Not

final_fantasy_7_remake

One of the really interesting problems that breaking Final Fantasy 7 Remake into parts brings is 'what happens to the world?' Will you still be able to travel from place to place that previous parts explored, or will locations be locked off from one another? In other words, will it be an open world that builds with each part?

Well, director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase have talked to Dengeki PlayStation, (via Gematsu) fielded questions about the Remake, and were asked if the game is an 'open world'? Kitase responded:

We can't say anything yet, but we don't plan on fussing about whether it's a so-called open-world or sandbox. But since Nomura is more focused on the creation of the scenery, we want to express an environment character actions affect [sic] the scenery.

While a somewhat broken quote, I assume this means that the character's actions will directly affect the environments. Based on not much but a feeling from that quote, this could be a Rise of the Tomb Raider type deal. That game takes place in one continuos world, but instead of being entirely open, it has pockets that are wide open that are interconnected. Again, how these are connected through the multiple part is going the be the key question here.We might be waiting for an answer to that for a while.
