Speculation Corner: Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior

Saga_of_Crystar,_Crystal_Warrior_Vol_1_1Remember this comic from the early eighties?

At some point it was reprinted in the back of a Marvel UK weekly title, which is where I came across it. It ran for 11 issues in 1983.

Well, right now, shiny fantasy comic Saga Of Crystar, Crystal Warrior is a cult favourite. But a very small cult. You'll pay two bucks an issue on eBay for the comics in decent nick.

But the previews of Weirdworld #2 may change that. Writer Jason Aaron posted on Instagram "The weirdness that is my Weirdworld research pile."

Issue 2 solicits read,

Or like his cellmate, a mysterious one-eyed man who appears to be made out of rock and calls himself a Crystal Warrior…

Jason Aaron said,

The solicits mention the phrase "Crystal Warriors," so that ought to give you a tease if you're about my age and you remember some obscure Marvel comics from the '80s. I don't want to say a whole lot else.

Well, the one-eyed would be Warbow, who seemed to disappear early on in the comic. Has he been here all this time?

We've already had the Magma Men. Remember, Weirdworld is one of the Secret Wars books that is setting up the future of the Marvel Universe. Here's the relevant preview pages for tomorrow's comic.

And given the prominence of a certain crystal warrior in this preview, I wonder if this might be a way to bring back Crystar, Crystal Warrior to the forefront again…
