Why Kirkman And Azaceta's Outcast #1 Wasn't In June's Top Ten, Explained

outcast_1The Diamond chart lists The Walking Dead #128 as the 9th best selling title in the direct market for June.

Diamond's chart on Monday will show that Outcast #1 is the 11th best selling title.

But, as we pointed out, Outcast #1 outsold Walking Dead #128.

So how?

Well, Outcast #1 had a print run of 86,000. With no cover variants of any sort.

It sold out a week before release.

The title is eligible for Image's returnability program. Although no one is returning it, it's a $14 book on eBay, Image got 4,000 orders they couldn't fill and now have a massive second printing…

But that means that Diamond discounted the reported figure by 10%, as they do for all books that are made returnable. Which, not including the UK numbers which don't get included by anyone, ends up as 71,788, placing it at #11 on their charts, rather than 8t, pushing Walking Dead into 9th and Detective Comics out of the top ten.

Clearly they should have put it in a Loot Crate…
