Diamond Confirm Tuesday Deliveries To Comic Stores In The USA – And In The UK!

Last week, Bleeding Cool broke the story that Diamond Comic Distributors would move to ship comic books to all comic stores across the USA to Tuesday, for Wednesday sale, rather than the current system where only a few receive their comics on Tuesday.

This won’t change the on-sale date for comic books, it will just allow retailers to have more time to prepare them for sale for the Wednesday

In even more radical news, Diamond will also be supplying comics to the UK on the Tuesday as well, shifting the UK’s Thursday on-sale date to Wednesday, the same as the USA. Currently most comic shops in the UK get their comics in Thursday. Given the different time zones, this means that UK customers will be able to buy that week’s American-sourced comics five or more hours before their American counterparts.

Today, Diamond contacted publishers to inform them of the change, talking about;

the transition to our new 2011 weekly shipping schedule – under which will begin “day-early delivery” – i.e. delivering weekly product shipments to participating retailers in North America and the UK on Tuesdays for sale on Wednesdays.

The new change will, in Diamond’s words;

give retailers less stress and more time to merchandise your product, market to/communicate with customers, and perform other valuable sales-building activities. It will also provide a buffer against delays due to weather or other causes, making the Wednesday release day more consistent and dependable than ever for eager consumers.

The first such delivery will take place on Tuesday, January 11th with a sale date of Wednesday, January 12th.

As a result, Diamond are demanding changes to schedules from publishers, so they receive the comics earlier than usual. And during December, to avoid last year’s skip week, request that publishers ship two weeks worth of comics at once.
