Over at the Marvel.com message boards, Marvel.com writer Kevin Mahadeo has posted the first official confirmation by Marvel of the Dark Reign: The List series that first seeped out from BleedingCool this morning.
Kevin reports that the idea behind Norman Osborne creating a list of targets in the Marvel universe to deal with came from an Xbox Live session between Brian Bendis and Matt Fraction, writers of Dark Avengers and Uncanny X-Men respectively.
Kevin quotes Brevoort as saying “It’s a way of doing an event that’s not the kind of crossover that we’ve done for the last couple of years… we should switch things up a little bit and try to hit the same kind of notes and do the same kind of universe-changing stories, but do them differently.
We also discover that, unlike the other oneshots previously detailed, Dark Reign: The List – Secret Warriors has Nick Fury teaming up with Norman Osborn against a common foe.
Kevin states that, specifically, the status quo of The Punisher series and the Avengers titles will be most affected by the events of these oneshots – and for Amazing Spider-Man to get “another brand new day”…
… and then there’s the mystery of the ninth item on Norman Osborn’s list. As Brevoort says, “we’re not going to talk about that quite yet. One the one hand, it’s a capstone to Dark Reign. On the other hand, it’s a bridge between Dark Reign and something else. There are eight specials, but Norman’s got nine items that he’s going to be dealing with. By the time we get to the end of this, the ninth thing will become apparent and that will lead into something else.”
Thanks Kevin! Thanks Tom! Thanks Halo 2! Expect all sorts of announcements at this weekend’s conventions to back this piece up.
