Our First Glimpse of Professor Xavier Without His Helmet in Today's Dawn Of X Comics (Spoilers)
Three Dawn Of X titles out today, man it wasn't that long ago that you were getting one a week and were happy. Now three of them, and it only costs you twelve bucks. So what are essential to the ongoing Dawn Of X threads and what are mere frippery? Well, New Mutants #2 is about putting the band back together again after Sam Guthrie, Cannonball, his wife Smasher and their kid went all cosmic. Which necessitates a little catching up with Sam over what all the other New Mutants have been up to, such as a certain Doug Ramsey who has been rather instrumental.
As well as teasing a future book, X-Corp. While Fallen Mutants #2 has Kwannon finding her own thing and getting a few of her new friends into danger as she fully lives up to the Psyclocke legacy. We also get to see Bar Sinister as it now appears on Krakoa and…
…okay, frankly, I was expecting something better from Essex. Drapes, candles, a rack of whisky something conducive to good times and gossip, after all your Sinister Secrets list, The Red Diamond, has to come from somewhere. And I would not be expecting whispered word about the latest Krakoan threesome to be on the wind in a place like this. Just, you know, the wind, whistling through the ruin. Though saying that, we do learn secrets about Kwannon and her butterfly tattoos that Betsy Braddock gifted her with. Better than Kitty Pryde's knuckles tattoos at least. But the biggest news and the most relevant to the continuing Dawn Of X stories is, it seems, X-Force #2, which left us with a dead Professor at the end of issue 1. And for the first time, we get to see him without his helmet…
So no, apparently not The Maker, he's up to his own shenanigans, over in Venom. But Magneto expects Charles' return, even if the Professor is needed for every mutant who comes back from the dead. There are redundancies… and Jean Grey is on the case.
Turning helmets into swords, there, Magneto. And looking at how the not-quite-Reavers were able to hone in on the Professor, the Quiet Council has taken some extreme measures.
No one tell the New Mutants, I mean seriously, how will they be able to use their phones now when they come back from space? Anyone's phones for that matter? How will people contact Kitty Pryde? Also, what about Warlock? Also what about Forge? Also what about Kid Cable? Cyclops' visor? Pyro's fuel tank? The credit card machines at Bar Sinister (once that refurb is done)? But mostly what about the mutant kids, how will they play Fortnite now? No one ever thinks of the kids…
Fallen Angels #2, New Mutants #2 and X-Force #2 are published by Marvel Comics today in all good comic shops. I bought mine from Piranha Comics in Kingston-Upon-Thames. Piranha Comics is a small south London comic store chain with a small south-east store in Kingston-Upon Thames's market centre, which runs Magic The Gathering nights on Fridays, and a larger south-west store in Bromley, which also runs Magic nights and has an extensive back issue collection and online store.
