Jesse James and Shawn Demumbrum to Break Mark Millar's Record For Creating a Comic Book, Again

The Guinness-officiated world record for the fastest time to fully produce a comic is 11 hours 15 min 38 sec, and was achieved by Jesse James Criscione and Shawn Demumbrum during the Amazing Arizona Comic Con, Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on 25th January 2014. This beat the previous record  set by Mark Millar and friends at his first of the doomed Kapow comic conventions in London 2011 (though everyone had a swell time). The world record for most contributors to a comic book stands at 141 people by a publisher out of Australia.

Jesse James and Shawn Demumbrum are attempting to beat both their own record and the Australian count. They believe they can break the time barrier by two hours and beat their participation count by 40 contributors.  The attempt will take place on June 15th on the second day of the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

They are encouraging contributors and fans to live stream the attempt through Facebook and Instagram to share this event with the world using the hashtags #comicsworldrecord and #amazinglasvegas.

And will Mark Millar accept being beaten not once but twice?

Shawn tells me,

When we broke the record in 2014, we had the contributions of Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvetri, Paul Jenkins, Kyle Higgins, Sina Grace and so many other talented artists and writers.  The guest and vendor list at Amazing Las Vegas has the potential to be filled with equally talented creators. Each writer will write 1-2 comic book pages continuing the story started by previous writers.  Artist will draw one panel of the comic book in less than 30 minutes.  We are working with our printer partner, Artist Express, to have printed copies of the comic available the next day.  We are encouraging contributors and fans to live stream the attempt through Facebook and Instagram to share this event with the world using the hashtags #comicsworldrecord and #amazinglasvegas.

This June, we will attempt to make comic book history.  We'll catch lightning in a bottle again and seal it shut.

Anyone up for accepting that challenge? Here's how the 2014 attempt looked…
