Cullen Bunn Returns to Marvel Monsters – For Trademark Reasons?

Bleeding Cool covered the legal battle between Marvel Comics and Monster Energy Drinks over the title to Marvel's comic book series Monsters Unleashed. It concluded, long after the series had been cancelled with Marvel abandoning their fight for the Monsters Unleashed trademark and Monster Energy Drinks agreeing to drop their counterclaim.

So what's a publisher to do? Well in August, the writer of Monsters Unleashed starring Kid Kaiju is teaming up with Scott Hepburn, Becky Cloonan, Gerardo Zaffino and more to bring us a one-shot called Marvel Monsters, bringing back Kid Kaiju. With a title that no one else but Marvel Comics is going to be able to trademark… and a one-shot counts for trademark registration…
