Greg Capullo, Taking a Wee Batman Break to Return to Spawn?

Batman: Last Knight on Earth is the upcoming 'final' Batman comic by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo for DC's Black Label line. While set out of continuity, it plays up to a lot of plotlines and themes that the pair set up on their run together on Batman and then Metal. Its schedule isn't firmly set in stone, however, and with DC Comics Publisher Dan DiDio a little under the cosh due to the lateness on other premier projects at the company, like Batman Damned, Heroes In Crisis, Superman Year One, Shazam and Doomsday Clock, it is understandable he may be concerned. The lateness of those other books, a combination of some being scheduled too early as well as considerable micromanagement, rewriting and redrawing in the wake of the Batpenis has, we have been told, been playing havoc with DC financial projections for a number of quarters in 2018 and 2019. Hence the Year of The Villain cardstock covers for a buck extra.

And while I am not aware of any actual schedule changes for The Last Knight On Earth, I understand that DiDio… let us say, had a moment of disquiet when he learned that artist Greg Capullo was taking a break to work on a Spawn project for Todd McFarlane. Again, no idea what, but Capullo got an early break working on Spawn and on Angela, and there is a Spawn #300 coming up…

Let's hope everything is settled now. Because I know that schedules and delays will be quite the talking point at this weekend's Diamond Retail Summit in Las Vegas.

BATMAN LAST KNIGHT ON EARTH #1 (OF 3) (MR)
(W) Scott Snyder (A) Jonathan Glapion (A/CA) Greg Capullo
Bruce Wayne wakes up in Arkham Asylum. Young. Sane.
And…he was never Batman.
So begins this sprawling tale of the Dark Knight as he embarks on a quest through a devastated DC landscape featuring a massive cast of familiar faces from the DC Universe. As he tries to piece together the mystery of his past, he must unravel the cause of this terrible future and track down the unspeakable force that destroyed the world as he knew it…
From the powerhouse creative team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, the team that reinvented Batman from the emotional depths of "Court of Owls" to the bombastic power of DARK NIGHTS: METAL, DC Black Label is proud to present the bimonthly, three-issue miniseries BATMAN: LAST KNIGHT ON EARTH, published at DC's standard comic trim size.
This could be the last Batman story ever told…
