Nickelodeon launched their new Ninja Turtles series last year called Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has been getting some decent reviews since it started. There are fans of the previous series who still adore that one compared to this, but this one is aiming for a new generation of kids. So, of course, as soon as they could, the company released a DVD set for some of the first episodes. This DVD is simply comprised of episodes from Season 1 of the show. Specifically, you’re getting “Mystic Mayhem”, “Origami Tsunami”, “Donnie’s Gifts”, “War and Pizza”, “Mascot Melee”, “Shell in a Cell”, and “Minotaur Maze”. They’re not in order of airing, it’s just seven random episodes to give you an idea of what the show is about.
As far as content goes, that’s all there is. There’s no bonus features, no behind-the-scenes stuff, no animatics, not even commentary. Best you get is French and Spanish voiceovers. Its really disappointing that this is all Nickelodeon decided t muster up for this release. They did such a better job with the previous series when it came to these short releases, but this is literally oen of those DVDs you hit “Play All” on the menu and leave the kids in front of the TV for an hour and a half. If that’s all you need, then this is your DVD. If you’d like the complete series for Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or some sort of reasoning behind buying one beyond mindless entertainment, then you might want to wait for a bigger release.
