Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, 12th May 2019 – Shazam Piquing More Comic Interest Than Endgame by a Long Shot

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait till the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

And for all but one stores on the list, The Batman Who Laughs #5 topped the charts. The top three books were Batman,  Shazam looked to get a movie boost as did Flash beginning its Year One. As did Spider-Man/Deadpool, that rarest of things, a Marvel comic book getting to its fiftieth issue without a relaunch.

Solid sales day Wednesday. Not a bad week at all.

Batman Who Chortles, our cheery chuckling chum, topped sales again this week at Ssalefish, as he is so wont to do. Hot on his heels was Detective Comics #1003, but surprisingly, not Batman and the Outsiders, which didn't even crack into our top 5. Is it Batman-overload that kept it down, or the swell of success that titles like Flash, Shazam, and Captain America enjoyed this week? Shazam performed especially well, which I guess is due to the cinematic success (surely everyone's seen in by now, I assume) and the charming all-ages appeal. We haven't heard a bad review yet for that movie, and it seems to be piquing more comic interest than Endgame by a long shot.

Back to business as usual as Bat-books dominate the list. BATMAN WHO LAUGHS and DETECTIVE are joined by BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS. Marvels big hit this week was WAR OF THE REALMS NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS and its slew of brand-new characters.

Not really any surprises beyond that. We've got a bunch of familiar, solid sellers like CATWOMAN and FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN. Bringing up the end of the list, we have the McElroy-family penned WAR OF THE REALMS JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY.

A five-five Marvel/DC split, but DC took the top slots with three Bat-titles–Detective, Batman Who Laughs, and Batman & The Outsiders. Flash leapt into the top ten for the first time in a while on the strength of Flash Year One. Marvel placed two Conan titles and two War of the Realms tie-ins in our store's top ten this week, demonstrating that both franchises are more durable than anyone anticipated.

Notable sales:

Amazing Spider-Man #212 9.6 $250 1st Hydro Man
