Drew Ford On Making Kickstarter a Little More Special

Drew Ford, publisher of the IT'S ALIVE! imprint of archival and revival comic book, writes,

After running four Kickstarter campaigns to publish four different issues of COMBAT by Sam Glanzman, I realized something needed to change. More than one backer has complained about is not being able to purchase past variant covers that they missed picking up the first time around. But the biggest complaint from backers was that each time I sent out a copy of COMBAT to KS backers, it would come out a few months later through Diamond, and not only could other people go to their local comic shop and pick up the same comic they had backed on Kickstarter, they could pick it up for cheaper (because of store discounts) than backers had paid via the campaign. Also, there was simply nothing different between the KS book and the book in comic shops. Well, this is no good, and it needs to change.

Therefore, starting with the campaign I have launched recently to publish the fifth issue of COMBAT, two of the three books available are ONLY available from the campaign! There is a standard cover by Sam Glanzman, and a stunning painted variant cover by legendary Star Wars artist Dave Dorman and both are ONLY available from my current KS campaign.

There is a second standard cover by Sam Glanzman that will be available from both the campaign and Diamond. But if you are looking for a Kickstarter exclusive, you found it! Oh, and I am also making ALL past variants by Walter Simonson, Russ Heath, Russ Braun, and John McCrea available via this new campaign as well! I don't honestly know how the campaign will go. Maybe this will work, maybe not. But I do my best to listen to the people who buy my comics, and I couldn't ignore such a constant complaint. I wanna create comics people will love, and but I also need to create crowd-funding campaigns that will get people excited because they are picking something up they can't get anywhere else. You spoke, and I listened. I hope you will check out the new campaign, and I hope you will like what you see. And if you do like what you see, I hope you will drop us a pledge. But most importantly, you now have the option of picking up a comic on my crowd-funding campaign that will be available nowhere else!
